Dr. Althoff was born and raised in Jacksonville, IL. He received his BS in chemistry and biology from MacMurray College in 1989, and graduated with honors from the University of Illinois Medical School at Urbana-Champaign in 1993. He completed his residency in family medicine at the SIU Family Practice Residency Program in Belleville, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year of training. Dr. Althoff and his wife, Kris, have two daughters, Emily and Rebecca.

Dr. Vonderheide was born and raised in Freeburg, IL. He received his BS degree from the University of Illinois, his medical degree from SIU School of Medicine in Springfield, and completed his three-year training in family practice at SIU Family Practice Residency Program in Belleville. There he served as a Chief Resident for his final year. He is certified by the NBME and a Diplomat with the ABFM. Dr. Vonderheide and his wife, Kim, have three sons, Devin, Brock, and Nicholas. They reside in Freeburg.

Dr. Winkeler grew up locally in New Baden. He attended undergrad at Quincy University where he met his wife, Jennifer. After medical school at the University of Illinois at Rockford, he went to Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, SC for his residency where he served as chief resident. In 2008 he came to work at Rural Family Medicine. He has a special interest in treating sports injuries but enjoys treating patients of all ages. Dr. Winkeler resides in Smithton with his wife and two children, Sophie and Alex. In his time away from work he is an avid golfer, volunteer coaching local sports teams and looks forward once again to being on the sideline of FCHS home football games.
A word from Dr. Winkeler about Rural Family Direct Care
“The addition of Rural Family Direct Care is very exciting. It allows us to practice medicine in a way which we thought we would when we started. Patients’ needs have taken a back seat to insurance regulations recently and Rural Family Direct Care allows the patient to once again become the focus of medicine.”

Katie is a Certified Physician Assistant who completed her medical training at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where she earned her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Prior to becoming a PA, she worked as an athletic trainer at Hancock High School in St. Louis. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri. While completing her undergraduate education, she played softball and worked as a scribe in the ER. Katie grew up in St. Louis, MO and currently resides in Swansea. Outside of work, she enjoys hanging out with friends and family and watching/attending St. Louis Blues and Cardinals games.

Angela was born and raised in Hecker, IL. She attended Goldfarb School of Nursing, earning her BS degree in Nursing in 2011. She received her Master of Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University in 2019. Prior to starting her position at Rural Family Medicine, she worked as a nurse at both Barnes Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, as well as at a family practice in Belleville, IL. Angela resides in Red Bud with her husband, Michael, and two daughters, Mallory and Ava. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Jennifer has worked for Rural Family Medicine since August of 1997. She lives in New Athens with her husband, Robert. They have two children, Caitlin and George, and one grandchild, Olivia. She enjoys spending time with her active family.
